Dress up Clothing….

Like most parents I know we also have a love hate relationship with the dress up clothing. Why? Because it gets strewn about everywhere and then you end up almost breaking your neck slipping on a dress or something that you didn’t see becuase you were caring a large baby or something.

However I’m here to tell you all the good things that come with dress up clothing!

When kids have a few electronic free pieces to play with they are able to work there imagination skills. It’s so important for children to be able to come up with their own fun with making up game, or themes, etc. Plus when they get really into their zone they stay out of your hair for a few moments to drink your cup of coffee, or heck even a glass of wine. (I’m not judging during these weird times!) My girls love to play princesses and queens, mommy and baby, and teacher. When the all play they get into knights and dragons, police and robbers, dinosaurs, or spies in disguise.

It is also wonderful for find motor skill becuase of all the buttons, velcro, ties, snaps, and such. This allows them to work those little fingers and feel proud about themselves for doing it. I love when the little ones have, small to us but, big to them victories that just LIGHT up their tiny faces.

This is also a great time for the big S word, you know Sharing. I feel like this is kind of like waves in the ocean. Just when you think your over the big wave another comes along. Sharing is something you need to work on almost all of the time, and it’s never to early to start.

Lastly I feel it’s a great way to have them practice taking care of their clothing. We have a large bin that it all just gets dumped into, but you could certainly take it further. I’ve see dress up closets which they could learn to hang their items up and fold others and put them away. If not you could have them help with washing the clothing and then folding it when it’s done. My girls like to fold clothing when they play mommy, because that’s what they see me doing A LOT of with 6 of us in the house.
