Bug Hunt!

Phew! Sometimes it’s hard to come up with new ideas to captivate your little ones for longer that it takes to create said idea. This activity was a winner on all fronts.

I ordered these butterfly nets and bugs from amazon, and the rest were gifts my children had received for Christmas. The mushroom kaleidoscope was from the bug Koala Crate, the binoculars, tweezers, and bug box came from a kit. The flashlight my kids just love and I thought it’d be a fun addition.

All you do is set up an area for them to grab their tools and inspect their finds. Then go around and set some out in different levels of difficulty for them to hunt.

After all the easy ones were found I did end up giving some hints here and there to find the tougher ones.

Side Notes:

  • Count and remember how many bugs you hid
  • try for some natural bug hiding areas BUT CHECK for things like real spiders so they don’t get bit
  • if you don’t know what the bug is google is a great way to find it
