After the kids have been introduced and eating a good bit of veggies and I’ve started the fruits I like to try cereal and I start with rice. I like to give a little bit then wait a day then give them some more then wait a day then try again. This way it’s not to much on their tummies and I can see if it will be ok. A lot of babies end up with tummy troubles (which leads to sleepless nights and cranky babies).
Just like with foods I like to use my breast milk vs water to mix with the cereal. It’s all just a dump and pour method. It all depends on how well your little one does with swallowing foods depends on the thickness you’d make it.
Once they are fine with it I love to add cereal to the fruits and veggies to thicken and fill their little bellies more.
Here is the brand I prefer the most. It’s organic and I feel like not a terrible price point either. Targets app usually had a couple every couple of months also. They have the Rice, Oatmeal, and Multigrain which is a great starter kit for testing out allergies. https://www.earthsbest.com/products/category/infant-foods/cereals/
I understand why mamas add cereal to their formula fed babies and I’m not judging by any means if you did or do add cereal to the baby’s milk but I’m here to say you should really never do that. Yes, it makes the baby belly more full but a lot of that is gas and it just upsets the baby.
In case you haven’t figured it out I’m a 100% all for breast milk but I’m more for the fed is best slogan. So like I said before, honestly, no judgement here what so ever.
Tips:
- Have your liquid warm to make for warm cereal
- if adding to a cold anything use the “double boiler” method. It can be as simple as putting the baby food bowl on top of another bowl with hot water in it. (We personally don’t have a microwave and I can’t stand them but I digress on that subject for another time.)
- try for breast milk whenever possible as your liquid if not filtered water
- if going out LEAVE IT DRY (yuck take it from me lol) mix your liquid in when you get there and the baby is hungry
Till then Enjoy and God Bless
