Not even going to fib our 5yo is really starting to be a real and true helper with laundry these days, and our 3yo almost 4yo isn’t far beind.
The best way to get them to start learning is with the cleaning rags becuase honestly WHO CARES what they look like. Also when the kids go to grab a rag to clean up some various mess they see that Mom hasn’t redone it and they can feel proud of their work.
It helps that we use a TON of reusable rags in our home to cut down on disposable products. I mean there are 6 of us now and 1) I’d be broke if I used paper products for cleaning every mess and 2) that’s so much landfill for all the messes my crew makes.
Then I have them move towards the linen closet and fold washrags, then hand towles and then towels.
During that I also have them moved onto pulling and matching socks, pulling and sorting gutchies, then to folding pants (since those seem to be easy for them).
We have not ventured further yet but they all love to help put laundry away so that’s a big plus for this mama.
So if your looking for something to keep them occupied this life skill is a great place to start. I start it around 2yo give or take 6 months. It has so many wonderful lesson from sorting, to fine motor skills, patients, discipline, etc.
Till then Enjoy and God Bless!
